What is a learning difficulty?
The phrase ‘learning difficulty’ is used to depict an ‘overall impairment of intellect or function’ and ranges from a severe to a mild level of difficulty.
The way that a learning difficulty impacts on a person’s varies, depending on the severity and on the individual’s social circumstances. People with a severe level of learning disability are likely to need considerable daily support with most aspects of daily living e.g. personal care, communication, mobility and general household tasks. People with a mild to moderate learning difficulty may require low level, intermittent support.
A learning difficulty cannot be ‘cured’, but with support any individual with a learning difficulty can lead an active and fulfilling life alongside their fellow people in the community.
Additional support
Many people we support also have associated problems, such as sensory impairment, physical disabilities or mental health needs, Trimar Care is skilled in providing support for people with very complex and/or challenging behaviours, such as those with emotional and social difficulties that may arise through, for example, having Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Our health action plans ensure that the health care needs of the people we support are met efficiently. This includes supporting them to access mainstream health services and overcoming communication barriers.
